| Feeding | Not a fussy eater so provide a quality flake or sinking pellets for the staple diet but supplement this with treats of live or frozen foods twice a week. |
| Care | Use sand or fine gravel for the substrate and provide hiding places by adding wood or rocks. They will need well oxygenated water with a medium flow. This fish is territorial and can be aggressive to tank mates so they are not suitable for a community tank. If keeping more than one specimen make sure that there is tank space for each fish to claim its own territory. They have a spine underneath each eye socket so take care when handling and try not to net these fish as they will become tangled. They are capable of producing a clicking noise, this can be heard clearly outside of the aquarium. |
| Notes | This fish is sometimes referred to as the Chinese Banded Laoch |
